after seemingly coming out of nowhere, your old droog set the internet aflame in 2014 with his self-titled debut ep, catching the attention of bloggers all over the web from new york magazine’s vulture to nahright. before long, conspiracy theories started and people began to posit that droog was another older, legendary new york rapper in disguise. profiled in the new yorker, droog (meaning “friend” in russian) set the record straight about who he was: a twenty-something ukrainian immigrant who fell in love with hip-hop when he arrived in south brooklyn as a small child. the timbre of his voice resembled that of a hip-hop legend but droog’s content had more to it than street dreams or observations from a project window. his music reflected his own unique life experience as he referenced everything from sports, to crime, to seinfeld and c-span in his rhymes. he was an intelligent hoodlum with a stand-up comedian’s sense of humor—unafraid to be as self-deprecating as he was self-aggrandizing.

cybordelics was founded in 1993 in stuttgart, germany. in the same year, mike s., milan zemanec and daniel varga aka cybordelics released their hit adventures of dama on sven väth’s label harthouse. the record climbed up the uk dance charts to the 2nd place. people from london to germany, especially in the legendary omen club in frankfurt, danced to their techno anthems until the late afternoon. today’s artists like ricardo villalobos, sven väth, gregor tresher, chris liebing, gerd janson or anthony rother were at the omen club when this record was played for the first time, and they still consider adventures of dama a milestone in techno history. 23 years later, the new harthouse label begins 2016 with a remix ep, featuring remixes by ricardo villalobos, butch, tuff city kids, starting a new era of the harthouse story.

while he may have been spotted in gentlemen s dub club amongst other festival friendly acts, as xoa nick tyson is going it alone to create globe-trotting sounds that speak to his musicianship and keen instinct for other kinds of grooves. there are in fact additional vocal spots on this ep including anthony joseph and monika liu, but the record is definitely pulled together by tyson s focused, refined vision. -in so- is a notable delight with its skittering beat and laconic guitar lines. watch out for the b side though, where the tracks get appropriate club revisions. byron the aquarius remix particularly stands out, injecting some broken beat bump into -in so-.

after a split release with chambray on ben sims’ hardgroove in 2016 greek-producer george tounisidis is set to drop a new 12” for symbolism in november entitled ‘solidarity’. with his first two cuts for the british dj’s imprint picking up support from the likes of dvs1, jackmaster and anthony parasole it’s unsurprising sims has tapped him for a full release on symbolism. since signing, tracks from ‘solidarity’ have also featured in both ben sims’ boiler room and run it red radio shows, resulting in a barrage of requests for release details which tees up the ep nicely. musically, ‘solidarity’ moves between scattered sequences and stabs (‘three clicks left’ & ‘solidarity’), muted hypnotics (‘nekyia’) and fractured acid (‘workers’) while all retaining the distinct sense of movement and dynamism that typifies symbolism releases.
